Introducing ‘Salt + Spine’ Podcast, Featuring Interviews with Leading Cookbook Authors

The new podcast launching on May 15 explores ‘Stories on Cookbooks’ and showcases sit-down interviews with compelling authors.

SALT + SPINE, a new podcast featuring interviews with leading cookbook authors discussing their craft and inspirations, premieres this week with an interview with renowned cookbook author and home cook Nigella Lawson. In the podcast, authors sit down among the cookbook stacks to discuss the stories and influences behind their works.

Interviews in the first season of SALT + SPINE include: Nigella Lawson (At My Table), Samin Nosrat (Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat), Jacques Pépin (A Grandfather’s Lessons), Preeti Mistry (The Juhu Beach Club Cookbook), Nancy Singleton Hachisu (Japan: The Cookbook), James Syhabout (Hawker Fare), Emily Kaiser Thelin (Unforgettable: The Bold Flavors of Paula Wolfert’s Renegade Life), Edward Lee (Buttermilk Graffiti), and more.

SALT + SPINE interviews are recorded in the cookbook library at The Civic Kitchen, San Francisco’s cooking school for home cooks.

In addition to author interviews, SALT + SPINE podcast episodes also feature excerpts read by the author, regular segments with Celia Sack of San Francisco’s Omnivore Books on intriguing cookbooks from her collection and archive, and excerpts and recipes online.

“I’m thrilled to sit down with some of our favorite cookbook authors to discuss their latest works—from diving deep into the roots of Japanese cooking to exploring stories and recipes from untold cooks across the country, cookbooks continue to serve as spirited cultural lenses,” said host Brian Hogan Stewart, a former journalist who comes to the podcast as a home cook. “Behind every cookbook are dozens and dozens of stories, and in this podcast, we’ll use those stories to learn about the craft of cookbooks, about ourselves and our pasts, and about how food is what ties us all together.”

SALT + SPINE will release its first episode, featuring Nigella Lawson, on Tuesday, May 15. New episodes will be released on subsequent Tuesdays. SALT + SPINE is available at SaltAndSpine.com, Apple Podcasts, and GooglePlay.
